Unique and fun truffle hunting
This is a one-of-a-kind activity and a nice break from your typical architecture and art gallery Florence sightseeing. It was very relaxing - the truffle hunt through the oak trees, the adorable truffle dogs, the delicious meal (red wine and truffle lasagna for the win!), and the wine and truffle tasting were all exquisite. I would do it again.
The dogs were sooooo cute
This truffle hunting experience is worth it just for the dogs! They were adorable and such cute, hard workers. It was obvious our instructor Moreno trained them well, and he even took some photos of me with them. He really knows his stuff - I learned a lot (e.g. the difference between black and white truffle).

HUNT DOWN TASTY TRUFFLES WITH SNIFFER DOGS
Your instructor will lead you through the Tuscan oak forest, accompanied by two Lagotto Romagnolo truffle hunter dogs. These dogs have incredible tracking abilities and a strong sense of smell, making them the world’s #1 truffle hunting dogs. Together, you’ll sniff out delicious truffles! As you track them down, your instructor will teach you the difference - white truffles have an earthy, stronger aroma that fades quickly, whereas the aroma of black truffles is less potent but long-lasting.
EAT A DELICIOUS TUSCAN LUNCH
Once you’ve finished truffle hunting, you’ll be treated to a traditional Tuscan meal - obviously featuring fresh truffles. Sit down and enjoy some truffle lasagna paired with an authentic, local red wine to wash it all down. As you dine, a local sommelier will teach you about the local industry, including the Chianti, Montepulciano, and Montalcino variants.
LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCAL TRUFFLES AND WINE
During the truffle hunting, your instructor will explain everything about truffles. For example, did you know that truffles need cool, damp, humid conditions to grow? It’s why they’re harvested in the autumn and winter. While dining, a local expert will teach you about Tuscan wines - and how essential the Sangiovese grape is to the region’s most famous wines.
HEAD BACK HOME WELL-RESTED
Travel back to your accommodation with a belly full of delicious truffles. When you get home, indulge in another glass of wine to finish the decadent experience and relive the fantastic memories.

Did you know that truffle hunting is different in different months?
October Truffle Hunting Tuscany is different from the September season. In October, black ‘summer’ truffles are more common since they have thick skin that helps them retain moisture during the hot months. However, in September, you’ll find white truffles more easily. The Tuscan soil is well-drained and sandy, which means these underground truffles won’t rot.
